Good morning, Bastrop County! 🤠

Two big ones this weekend. Our Business of the Week is Roadhouse Paige, where the Roadhouse name has taken Best Burger in Bastrop County sixteen years running and there is a band on the stage most weekends. Saturday night that band is Nancy Moore, playing 6 to 9 with some of her Timber Bridge bandmates, and she is one of seven acts playing the county this weekend. Then The Toasted Yolk Cafe opens early Friday and Saturday morning for a brunch before the brunch, out at Sendero: a complimentary entree, and instead of payment they ask for a donation to Bastrop County Cares. Reservations are required and they have gone fast, so check before you make plans. Add the two-day Main Street Market, three red dirt bands at Rising Sun Vineyard, and Go Texan Night on the dirt at Cotton Bowl Speedway, and this weekend is going to be hard to choose. Want more than just this week? Our Bastrop County events guide runs year round.

Missed Thursday last week? Catch up here. Let's dig in.

🍔 Business of the Week | Roadhouse Paige | Paige

Drive east out of Bastrop on Highway 20 and the pines give way to pasture, and then there is a long barn building with a covered porch, a hand-painted sign, and a gravel lot that fills up on a Saturday night. That is Roadhouse Paige, and if you have lived in this county any length of time somebody has already told you about the burger.

They are not shy about it, and they have earned it. The Roadhouse name has taken Best Burger in Bastrop County sixteen years running. The honor that belongs to Paige alone is better still: their Jalapeño Cream Cheese Burger landed on Texas Monthly's 50 Best Burgers in Texas. Everything is made to order, which is worth knowing before you walk in hungry, and it is worth the wait.

But the reason Roadhouse Paige is in this issue is the stage. There is a room inside with checkered tablecloths, neon beer signs, pool tables and a jukebox, and there is a covered stage out back strung with lights and lined with long tables. Bands play both. This Saturday, August 22, Nancy Moore plays 6 to 9pm with some of her Timber Bridge bandmates, keys and vocals and the kind of set that works whether you came to listen or came to eat.

Paige does not get spotlighted often. It should.

What to order

  • The Jalapeño Cream Cheese Burger, $15.50, the one Texas Monthly picked

  • The "Destruction" Burger, $19.50, with cheddar and Swiss, avocado, bacon, pico and a queso drizzle

  • The "Jack" Burger, $16.50, cream cheese and pico on a jalapeño bun

  • The Lydia Sandwich, $16.50, blackened diced chicken, pepper jack, pico and avocado, or the Portobello Mushroom Sandwich, $14.95, if you are skipping the beef

  • Beseme Calientes, $7.95, bacon-wrapped cream cheese jalapeños, and Roadhouse Wings, $9.95, for the table

  • A handmade shake or malt, $4.95, made with Blue Bell, or the 4 Way Stop Fudge Brownie, $6.45, which is built to serve four
