Good morning, Bastrop County
The third week of October is peak pumpkin season, and the calendar shows it.
Friday the Boring Bodega throws an Oktoberfest with stein-holding and pretzel-toss contests, the Bastrop Opera House keeps Shakespeare (Abridged) rolling and the patios fill with live music. Saturday is the big one: Smithville throws its Fall Festival while the Sustainable Home & Garden Show fills Railroad Park, the museum celebrates El Camino Real Day with free Latin jazz at noon, and McDade hosts the Great Pug Grumble at Sherwood Forest Faire. Sunday, St. Peter's Lutheran in Elgin throws its 12th annual Fall Festival. Wednesday night Fields of Faith gathers students at Tiger Stadium in Smithville.
Our Featured Business this week is the Bastrop steakhouse where the meat keeps coming until you say when, and our Featured Class is a crochet pumpkin workshop with just a few seats left. Let's dig in.

🔥 Featured Business of the Week | Espadas de Brazil | Bastrop
Somewhere between the first skewer of beef and the fourth, you stop counting. That is the whole idea at Espadas de Brazil, the family-owned Brazilian steakhouse that opened June 4 on Chestnut Street in the old Stem & Stone building, and the first of its kind in Bastrop County.
Owner Robinson Figueiredo started out with an Austin food truck that some of you may remember parked at the Boring Bodega. Now he has a full dining room built around rodízio, the gaucho tradition from southern Brazil: meats are hand-seasoned, roasted over open flame on long metal skewers, and carried table to table by passadores who carve right onto your plate until you tell them to stop. Pair it with the hot and cold salad bar and a hand-shaken caipirinha and lunch, brunch or dinner turns into an event. It is a natural pick for birthdays, anniversaries and the out-of-town relatives.
Yes, they are known for their beef, and the picanha earns it. But take it from us: don't pass up the bacon-wrapped chicken, the pork sausage, and the grilled pineapple. That pineapple comes off the fire warm and caramelized, and it is honestly to die for. Save room.
What to order:
Full Rodízio Feast with salad bar | $52.99 at dinner. Picanha, garlic beef, filet mignon, ribeye, beef ribs, lamb sirloin, bacon-wrapped chicken and filet, pork sausage, pork ribs, grilled pineapple and more
Weekday Lunch Feast | $29.99, the best deal in the house. Weekend Lunch Feast | $39.99
Salad bar only | $19.99 at lunch, $29.99 at dinner
Caipirinhas | $8, traditional or frozen, in flavors like passion fruit, mango, coconut and hibiscus
Bar bites | Picanha sandwich $14, meats mix with chimichurri $16
Desserts | Churros, key lime pie, chocolate lava cake and an açaí bowl
💃 Wednesday is Ladies Night (5-9pm). Order the rodízio and pick your treat: 25% off a bottle of wine, $2 off signature cocktails, or a complimentary Brazilian lemonade. The kitchen is also gluten-free friendly.
