Good morning, Bastrop County

Halloween lands on a Saturday this year, which means the candy budget has officially doubled and so have the trunk-or-treats. The forecast says it might finally feel like fall. The forecast has said that before.

Every corner of the county gets in on it this week. Downtown Bastrop's Boo Bash takes over Main Street Saturday afternoon. Smithville has two free horror movie nights at the Playhouse and Scream Hollow all weekend. Elgin has a Lotería night, a Spooky Trivia Night for the grown-ups and a church trunk or treat on Halloween night. Rosanky has a car show, Paige has a Halloween concert with farm animals in the audience, and Sunday's Día de los Muertos Honor Walk closes out the month.

Costumes on. Let's go.

Here's the long weekend, town by town. Pace yourself on the candy.

Friday is the warm-up. Avendale at The Colony hosts a trunk or treat at 4:30, and Playhouse Smithville screens Night of the Living Dead for free at 8:30. Grown-ups who would rather do the Time Warp can catch the Rocky Horror shadow cast at Film Alley (buy ahead, it sells out), and FOUNDATION Christian Ministries throws its Your Way's Better Night glow party at 7.

Saturday starts early in Rosanky, where the Rosanky Revival Trunk or Treat Car Show runs 8am to 7pm. From 2 to 6, downtown Bastrop turns into one big trick-or-treat route for the Bastrop Boo Bash, with the museum porch handing out treats and the Bastrop Social Club running a costume contest. Bring a bag. Bring a bigger bag.

In Smithville, Birdee's starts its Halloween party at 2, Rare Earth Tattoo hosts its first Tat or Treat at 4, and Playhouse Smithville closes the night with a free Rocky Horror screening and the Transylvanian Ball at 9. First Baptist Church Elgin runs a free trunk or treat from 6 to 8, Austin Farm Sanctuary in Paige throws Boo! @ The Farm with trick-or-treating among the pigs, and Copper Shot's Pirates & Sirens party keeps downtown Bastrop going until 10.

Sunday gets quieter and more meaningful. The museum's Día de los Muertos ofrendas have one last day, and at 6pm the Honor Walk leaves the museum for an evening walk down Main Street past the ofrendas in local shop windows. Bring the name of someone you are walking for.
