Good morning, Bastrop County
Hogeye weekend starts tonight, and the rest of the county is right there with it.
Elgin's 39th Annual Hogeye Festival runs today through Saturday downtown: the stroll, an art gala, hog calling and a glow-in-the-dark 5K tonight, a dessert contest and free street dance Friday, and the cook-off, costume parade and live music all day Saturday. Smithville has Scream Hollow Friday through Sunday and the Lost Souls Trail Run on Sunday morning. In Bastrop, there are trunk-or-treats at Community Gardens and Hyperloop Plaza, Hocus Pocus in Fisherman's Park on Saturday night and the final weekend of Shakespeare (Abridged) at the Opera House.
Here's your week.

🐷 Featured This Week | The 39th Annual Elgin Hogeye Festival | October 22-24, Downtown Elgin
For 39 years, Elgin has closed down its historic downtown for a weekend that smells like smoked pork and sounds like a street dance. The Hogeye Festival is the City of Elgin's own Main Street celebration, and in 2026 it runs Thursday through Saturday, October 22-24, with free admission all three days.

Thursday opens the weekend after work. The Hogeye Stroll runs 5-9pm along Main Street, the Pearls Before Swine Gala & Art Show opens at The Clever Tiger, and the Hog Calling Contest takes sign-ups from 5pm (all ages, donation entry). The Hogeye Hustle 5K | Glow in the Dark steps off at 6pm from Veterans Memorial Park, and Main Street is cutting the ribbon on its new office at the H&TC Freight Depot.
Friday starts with the Hogalicious Dessert Contest at the Freight Depot, 114 Central Ave. Registration is at 5pm, judging at 7pm and winners at 8pm, and then everyone gets to sample. The free street dance follows on Depot Street, with Salt Flat Blvd at 8pm and Rian Castillo and Texas Indigo at 10pm.
Saturday is the big day, 10am to 6pm: the BBQ pork cook-off, Cow Patty Bingo, handmade arts and crafts, the bike and motorcycle show, a dunk-a-hero booth, a kids' zone and the Children's Costume & Pet Parade (check-in 8:30am at Veterans Memorial Park). Music runs on two stages, starting with the Thomas Family at 10:30am, with the Sowpremes at 4:15pm and Grupo Rumores closing out the day at 5pm. Skip the parking hunt and take the free shuttle from SPJST Hall #18, 702 N Hwy 95. The buses are wheelchair accessible.
