Some weeks the county's small towns get one line in this newsletter. This week Rosanky gets a whole weekend.
Saturday, Barefoot Flower Farms opens Rosanky Market Days at the Wagon Wheel Stop on Highway 304, ten to two, where their flower market shop already lives. Sunday morning, five minutes down the road, St. Mary of the Assumption throws its 47th Annual Homecoming Bazaar in a parish that is marking 150 years this year. Barbecue beef plates with homemade bread, a live auction, a petting zoo and wagon rides. If you have never had a reason to drive out to Rosanky, you now have two in one weekend.
The rest of the week is stacked too. Down Home Ranch's 23rd annual gala goes Rhinestone Cowboy at the convention center Saturday night. There is free music on the museum's front porch at noon and a free concert at Neighbor's that night. Friday night lights finally come home to Smithville and McDade. And out at Rising Sun Vineyard in McDade you can paint a fox on Friday and hear Ben Zuniga on Saturday.
Then there is the new place on 71 with the egg in the toast, which is our Featured Business this week.

Barefoot Flower Farms is a working flower farm out in Rosanky, and their Flower Market Shop sits right at the Wagon Wheel Gas N Go on 304. This Saturday they are turning it into a market day.
They grow using organic and sustainable practices, and they are direct about the limits of that phrase: not certified organic, but never synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. Fresh-cut flowers daily, potted plants and succulents, annuals and perennials, Texas natives, ornamental shrubs, houseplants and gifts. They also do wedding flowers, custom arrangements and a monthly bouquet subscription with local delivery.
And if you want to make an afternoon of it, their nursery and event venue is a separate stop about five minutes away at 440 McReynolds Road. Their own directions say to start at the shop, then take McReynolds and follow the little blue arrows painted on the road, which is the most Bastrop County set of directions we have printed all year.
A note of honesty: the vendor list, the lineup and whether there is an admission charge are not published anywhere I could find. The facebook event description is one sentence long. So go for the flowers and the plants and treat anything else as a bonus.

🥚 Featured Business of the Week | The Toasted Yolk Cafe | Bastrop
The Toasted Yolk Cafe opened this summer at 853 State Highway 71, Suite 150, and the whole operation runs on a single idea: breakfast and brunch, done properly, seven days a week, and then the doors close at three. No dinner service. The kitchen's own line is that everything is made from scratch daily, sauces and dressings included.
The name is the menu's whole thesis. The Toasted Yolk is two slices of sourdough grilled with an egg cooked into the middle of each one, with your choice of breakfast meat and either grits or hashbrown casserole. You can take it Southwestern, with chili, house-made queso and pico, or Southern, with a hand-breaded chicken tender, country sausage gravy, bacon crumbles, cheddar and diced tomatoes. They pour a full bar, which for a place that closes at three means mimosas and Bloody Marys,
Before they served the public a single plate, they spent opening weekend running a Friends and Family event with every dollar going to Bastrop County Cares. That is a better first move than most new arrivals on Highway 71 make.
What to order
🍳 The Toasted Yolk. The namesake. Sourdough, egg in the middle, Southwestern or Southern.
🌮 Brisket Tacos. Twelve-hour smoked lean brisket, scrambled eggs, roasted potatoes and cheddar in flour tortillas, with pico and tomatillo salsa.
🍗 Nashville Hot Chicken and Waffles. Hand-breaded tenders between waffles with diced jalapeños, cheddar and a hot honey drizzle.
🍤 Shrimp N Grits. Their cheese grits under garlic shrimp, bacon, cilantro, tomato and a dash of cayenne.
🧁 Churro-Style Donuts. Cake donuts in cinnamon sugar with caramel for dipping.
🧇 All-American Berry Waffle. On the current limited-time menu, and the one their Bastrop page keeps posting: Belgian waffle, house-made caramel, blueberries and strawberries, vanilla glaze.
